CITY NEWSPAPER REPORTER
Are you all about Rochester? Do you move easily between its neighborhoods, suburbs, and halls of power? Is the fire in your belly to tell local stories that matter and that no one else is telling?
CITY Newspaper, the leading alternative print and digital media outlet in Rochester, N.Y., has an immediate opening for a news reporter fluent in public records searches and journalism best practices.
We want a writer with personality who can break news, cultivate sources, and is as adept at covering spot news as crafting long-form pieces that explore angles beyond the headline of the week.
The ideal candidate is a seasoned storyteller whose writing is infused with as much plumbing as poetry, someone who can attend a City Council or school board meeting and spot a nugget of news that goes unnoticed by every other reporter in the room.
CITY is a healthy blend of news, culture, and commentary, that examines and celebrates life in the greater Rochester region. Because CITY is owned by Rochester Area Media Partners, a subsidiary of WXXI Public Broadcasting Council, an NPR and PBS affiliate, opportunities for reporters to expand their work to radio and television abound.
The successful candidate would be expected to write two to three stories of varying depth and lengths each week, shoot photographs and video when necessary, maintain an active presence on social media, and have fun doing it. Three years of newspaper, alt-weekly, or magazine experience are preferred.
CITY is committed to diversity. In addition to a competitive compensation and benefits package, we offer an inclusive, casual-attire environment.
TO APPLY: Qualified applicants may send resume, cover letter, and links to five clips (or attach a PDF of print clips) to email@example.com with the subject heading, “CITY Newspaper Reporter.”
