When: Thu., Oct. 13, 7-9 p.m.
The Our Voices Project is a Rochester-based initiative whose goal is to dismantle destructive stereotypes of minority groups perpetuated in the media by producing films centered on the multifaceted experiences of Black, Brown, and Indigenous people. This event includes a discussion and screening of OVP’s most recent work, A Dominican Dream, which centers Rosa Vargas-Cronin's journey to learn her Afro-Caribbean ancestral history. The discussion will address the complexities of Dominican Republic-Haiti relations, the history of the indigenous Caribbean Taino people and their eradication by Christopher Columbus, and the importance of honoring African roots. Discussion led by Vargas-Cronin and Courtney Shouse.
