Vazquez to try again for Assembly seat

This afternoon, Republican Peterson Vazquez will announce that he's running for the State Assembly's 138th District seat, which includes parts of the City of Rochester, Henrietta, and Chili.

The seat is currently held by Assembly member Harry Bronson, who hasn't officially announced that he's seeking re-election, but presumably will run. Vazquez also challenged Bronson in 2012, but Bronson defeated him handily.

Vazquez is a US Army veteran, says a press release from the Monroe County Republican Party. He founded and sold a small business, the release says, and recently received a master's degree in strategic leadership from Roberts Wesleyan College.

He's also something of a rising star in local Republican politics. He helped start the Latino National Republican Coalition of Monroe County, a local affiliate of the Latino National Republican Coalition. The group works to build GOP support among conservative Latinos, and also tries to get them to run for office.

To get a feel for how Bronson and Vazquez differ on issues, take a look at City's coverage of the 2012 race. The section dealing with Vazquez versus Bronson is approximately one-third of the way in.
