Lobby for fair elections
MoveOn, Citizens Action of NY, and Fair Elections NY are coordinating a trip to Albany for a fair election lobby day on Wednesday, May 29. A van will leave from 167 Flanders Street at 7 a.m. and return later that day. Reservations: email@example.com or call Rosemary Rivera at 520-6542.
Young pols panel
Monroe County Young Democrats will hold "Young Professionals in Monroe County," a panel discussion at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 30. Five local professionals under age 35 who work in local, state, and national politics have been invited to participate. The event is at Boulder Coffee, 100 Alexander Street.
Rochester Against War will hold a Memorial Day peace parade on Monday, May 27, immediately following the city's Memorial Day parade. People who'd like to be in the parade should gather at Arnold Park and East Avenue by 10 a.m. The parade route is from East Avenue to East Main Street.
Meet city school board candidates
Democratic organizers will hold two public forums for city school board candidates. The first is at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 23, at Aenon Missionary Baptist Church, 175 Genesee Street. The second forum is at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 28, at First Genesis Baptist Church, 292 Hudson Avenue.
Women in Israel talk
The Jewish Federation of Greater Rochester will present the lecture "Women in Israeli Society" at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 23. Miri Eisin, who retired from the Israel Defense Forces as a full colonel, is the main speaker. She served as assistant director of military intelligence and as deputy head of the combat intelligence corps. The event is at Temple Beth El, 139 South Winton Road.
Rally to defend Head Start
Parents, teachers, and education and labor groups are holding a rally to protest federally mandated sequestration cuts that will hurt ABC Head Start at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22. The rally will be held outside ABC Head Start's annual meeting at the Rochester Museum and Science Center, 657 East Avenue.
