Ending the cycle of recidivism

The Judicial Process Commission's annual fundraising and awards luncheon on Wednesday, April 25, will feature a talk on the topic "From Prison to Recovery." Keynote speaker Susan Burton, founder and director of the New Way of Life Reentry Project, has received numerous awards for her work helping people break out of the cycle of incarceration. Films will examine racism

As part of visual Studies Workshop's Community Curator program, SURJ ROC – Showing Up for Racial Justice – will show a selection of short films on Saturday, April 7, on how racism is taught and reinforced by media. Pressing for equal pay

Rochester NOW and the Greater Rochester Area AAUW will present two talks on Tuesday, April 10, in recognition of Equal Pay Day. New York labor commissioner Roberta Reardon, will discuss "Closing the Gender Wage Gap" and Mohini Sharma, a restaurant-worker organizer with Metro Justice, will speak on "One Fair Wage." The event will be held at the AAUW Perkins Mansion, 494 East Avenue, at 7 p.m.

Commemorating CRCDS' history in civil rights

Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School's Black Student Caucus will commemorate the 50th anniversary of a 1969 protest this week with two events. Students at the school that year protested following Dr. Martin Luther King's death after their calls for a more diverse faculty were ignored. At 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 5, there'll be a service at Genesee Baptist Church, 149 Brooks Avenue. And a gala dinner will be at 6:30 p.m. Friday, April 6, at CRCDS, 1100 South Goodman Street; the dinner charge, $35; reservations: 271-1320.
