Supreme Court to be discussed

The League of Women Voters of the Rochester Metropolitan Area will present "The Supreme Court – Distinct and Independent," on Tuesday, October 9. Panelists will discuss whether Alexander Hamilton was correct when he characterized the Supreme Court as the least dangerous branch of government. The panelists are Richard Wesley, senior US circuit judge, US Court of Appeals; and Daan Braveman, president of Nazareth College. Sarah Liebschutz, professor emerita, The College at Brockport will serve as moderator. The event will be held at the Nazareth Arts Center, at 7 p.m.

Planning world-class skate park

The city's Department of Recreation and Youth Services will host a design workshop for the proposed Rochester Urban Skatepark on Wednesday, October 3. The city is looking for ideas to develop the preliminary design for a world-class skate park. The 38,000 square foot park will be located under a portion of the Frederick Douglass-Susan B. Anthony Bridge. The workshop will be held at the Frederick Douglass R-Center, 999 South Avenue, at 6 p.m.

Questioning meaning of intelligence

The University of Rochester and Starbridge will present the Rochester premiere of the documentary film "Intelligent Lives," on Wednesday, October 3. The film follows three people with intellectual disabilities who challenge perceptions about the definition of intelligence as they navigate high school, college, and careers. The film will be shown at the Strong National Museum of Play, 1 Manhattan Square, at 6 p.m. The event is free, but registration is needed: 224-7399.
