The experimental WallByrd Theatre Co., led by Virginia Monte, returns to the stage this month with a new take on Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet." Monte directs the show in partnership with the Shakespeare Players of Rochester and Rochester Community Players, which offer an annual outdoor Bard show run. The classic love story — complete with the tagline "True Love Never Dies" — will be infused with the culture of anime, video games, and rock music, all performed among the trees at Highland Bowl. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets or chairs for the lawn, as seating is not provided. Refreshments will be available for sale.
"Romeo and Juliet" is at 8 p.m. July 20, 22-24, 26-27, and 29-30 at the Highland Bowl in Highland Park (off South Avenue). The Saturday, July 23, and Wednesday, July 27, shows will be ASL interpreted. Admission is free, but donations are welcome. For more, visit rochestercommunityplayers.org.
