THEATER | Puppet-Infused 'A Christmas Carol'

by

The New York State Puppet Festival debuted this past summer in Perry, New York, and is back for a winter performance this week with its production of "A Christmas Carol." Presented in collaboration with Shake on the Lake, the professional theatre company based in Silver Lake, the show features two actors. Scrooge is played by Josh Rice (producing artistic director of Shake on the Lake and founder of the New York State Puppet Festival), and puppeteer Josh Marcks portrays all of the other characters in the form of Bunraku-style, shadow, and pageant-style puppets). The opening act for the December 7 to 9 shows are the Wyoming County Community Action Carolers, and for the December 14 to 16 shows Genesee Dance Theatre will open.

The puppet-infused "A Christmas Carol" will be presented at Theatre@37, 37 South Main Street, in Perry, at 7 p.m. on Fridays, December 7 and 14; Saturdays, December 8 and 15; and Sundays, December 9 and 16; with 2 p.m. matinee shows all four weekend dates. Tickets are $20. eventbrite.com; shakeonthelake.org.
