For the past five months, high school students have been competing against one another in slam poetry at Press Coffee House. Each slam night has featured a poetry workshop, open mic, and slam where they have been preparing and earning points towards the Grand Slam, which is the culmination of their slam poetry events. Once judging is complete, a group of four teenagers, including two coaches, will prepare to participate in Brave New Voices, the national youth slam competition held in Washington, D.C. in July.
