Stonewall: 50 Years Out

When: April 5-July 20 2019

The exhibition will demonstrate how the Stonewall uprising activated local LGBTQ+ communities to advance human rights in an ongoing revolution that expands Rochester’s social reform legacy. The exhibition is part of a year-long community-wide commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the uprising at the Stonewall Inn in New York City on June 28, 1969 which launched the modern gay liberation movement. Rochester has the largest per capita LGBTQ+ population in New York State (6.8 compared to 4.5% in New York City) and has had an activist LGBTQ+ community since Stonewall.
