Fact: I have an unhealthy obsession with "Little House on the Prairie." While I obviously can't build a time machine to travel back to Walnut Grove (damn you, science!), Genesee Country Village & Museum (1410 Flint Hill Road, Mumford) makes for a great substitute.
This weekend is the last opportunity to experience GCVM's Yuletide in the Country tours, which put you in the shoes of people living in 1849 when New York declared Christmas, Independence Day, and New Year's Day state holidays. There's music, a tree lighting, and dancing as the villagers celebrate the good news.
Yuletide in the Country takes place Friday, December 20, 5-8:30 p.m.; Saturday, December 21, 1:15-7:45 p.m.; and Sunday, December 22, 1:15-7:30 p.m. The tour is 90 minutes long, and you'll be on your feet the whole time so be sure to wear a good pair of walking shoes. The tour costs $18-$22 per person, and there's also a yuletide buffet to eat for an extra $30 (reservations required). Call 538-6822 or visit gcv.org for more information.
