Founded in 1967, Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen was one of the all-around roots rock bands, mixing R&B, rockabilly, soul, country, and swing into an alcohol-fueled boogie-down affair. The Commander commanded from the piano. Known for its marathon, sweat fest shows and particularly for its cover of Johnny Bond's 1955 "Hot Rod Lincoln," the band ended its run in 1976. Still, don't consider the band gone but rather lost in the ether from where it frequently emerges for the faithful. Get down.
