ROCKABILLY | Brian Setzer Trio and George Thorogood

by

I thank and blame these two men for everything I knew and used in my former career as a guitar slinger. Brian Setzer turned me on to Gene Vincent and Eddie Cochran, and George Thorogood hipped me to Bo Diddley and Hound Dog Taylor. I was never the same afterwards. The three-time Grammy-winning Setzer is one of the greatest guitar players of our time. And through his talent has spear-headed resurrections of two American genres: rockabilly with The Stray Cats, and swing with his 18-piece Brian Setzer Orchestra. Setzer is on the road now bringing his latest Rockabilly Riot! tour with a stripped down trio. The twang will have nowhere to hide.

With gravelly vocals, a wisecracking stage personae, and an equally rough 'n' tough guitar tone, George Thorogood gets down to the very heart of the blues. Six Gold- and two Platinum-selling albums stand as proof. It's slide guitar that rocks, and it'll give you the boogie in your sox.

Brian Setzer and George Thorogood perform on Saturday, May 30, at CMAC, 3355 Marvin Sands Drive, Canandaigua. 7 p.m., $25-$55. cmacevents.com; briansetzer.com.
