Girls Rock! Rochester, founded in 2011, is a summer rock camp that uses music to help foster creativity and empowerment in girls and Trans youth. This year, the organization is starting a concert series, showcasing talented members of the Girls Rock! Rochester community, including staff members, board members, and campers. This first concert will feature the distorted punk rock of Green Dreams; punk band Maxi Pads, formed by Girls Rock! Rochester campers and youth interns; and volunteer Giana Caliolo performing as Calicoco, which offers heavy vocal harmonies coupled with upbeat, strummy guitar. Also, keep an eye out for the organization's new Queer Rock Camp kicking off in August.
Green Dreams, Maxi Pads, and Calicoco will play the first Girls Rock! Rochester concert on Sunday, April 29, at the Record Archive, 33 1/3 Rockwood Street. 1 p.m. $5-$10 donations. girlsrockrochester.org.
