I've been a Desert Noises fan for a while now — the Provo, Utah-based rock band has made Rochester a regular tour stop during its East Coast swings. Desert Noises has been pigeonholed by music critics as an alt-folk harmony, guitar-jingle-jangle band, and while some of its songs reflect that style, let me tell you, a Desert Noises show is propulsive; its tunes can blast your pants off. In concert, the group reminds me of Neil Young in his ragged glory, although there's an undercurrent of My Morning Jacket, too. The foursome has been honed by tons of gigs and festivals, including performances at last year's Lollapalooza and Bonnaroo. Desert Noises is now touring in support of its latest album, "27 Ways."
