Professor Nancy A. Hewitt, Rutgers University, will be speaking on “Radical Friends: Amy Post and Grassroots Organizing in Antebellum Rochester.” Radical Friends refers both to the radical Quaker circles in which she was raised and through which she entered social activism as well as to her movement friends-like Frederick Douglass, Harriet Jacobs, and many lesser known women and men-with whom she organized on behalf of abolition and woman's rights.
