The members of this Golden State quintet all met while growing up in Hawaii, but didn't start their musical journey together until crossing paths again in Santa Barbara. Iration combines elements of indie rock and pop with a funky island vibe — the product is a truly alternative take on reggae. The group's rastafied rhythms have landed it on major festival stages such as Lollapalooza and Wakarusa, as well as jettisoning its 2010 full length "Time Bomb" to number one on the iTunes reggae album chart. Last year's "Automatic" is another stellar effort that features cameos from former Cage the Elephant member Lincoln Parish.
Iration performs Sunday, February 23, 6:30 p.m. at the Club at Water Street Music Hall, 204 N. Water Street, $15-60, waterstreetmusic.com
