Our guide to the fourth annual High Falls Film Festival

by , , , and

Here’s a new definition of chick flick: edgy features; satirical shorts; political documentaries; movies about war, jail, sex, brothels, and wrestling. The film festival that celebrates “the accomplishments of women behind the camera” gets bigger and stronger each year. This year, there are more films (40), more famous guests (actors Joan Allen and Sally Kellerman, director-producer Mira Nair, screenwriter Joan Ackerman), more shorts programs, and more up-and-coming artists here to present their work. There are tons of panel discussions, interviews, and, of course, parties. Our critics watched as many of the films as possible, and here they give you their candid opinions of what they saw. Read quickly and then run for your tickets. For more information, visit or call 258-0480.
