The Cumming Nature Center this weekend will offer an opportunity for people of all ages to learn about the ecology, landscape, and culture of the Finger Lakes at the center's 900-acre nature preserve. The public can join scientists, naturalists, and teachers to participate in the citizen science event BioBlitz. Race to catalogue as many living things as possible, while opening your eyes to the vast array of plants, bugs, and wildlife living all around us. Bring field guides or engage with experts to learn about the diverse life you document on data sheets or in mobile apps. Dress for the weather, wear closed-toe, comfortable walking shoes, bring a picnic lunch, and spend the day exploring and learning how field data is collected. Long pants are recommended for this hike.
BioBlitz will take place on Saturday, July 14, from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. at Cumming Nature Center, 6472 Gulick Road, Naples. $3 per person, $10 per family, and free to RMSC members. 374-6160; rmsc.org.
