As a prize for winning Pepsi's “Hype Your Hometown” competition, Rochester will see a free pop-up concert with pop duo Nico & Vinz on the corner of East Avenue and Chestnut Street, this Sunday. During the contest’s December run, Pepsi asked participants across the country to send in photos and videos of their excitement for the upcoming Super Bowl halftime show. Rochester blew away the competition from other cities. Along with the concert, Pepsi will also bring in a mobile Hype Squad and chances for Rochester residents to win tickets to the Super Bowl halftime show in Arizona, which features a performance from Katy Perry.
Nico & Vinz, a Norwegian singer-songwriter team, are best known for its international breakthrough, “Am I Wrong,” which reached number one on the American Top 40 Charts and number four on the Billboard Hot 100. Nico & Vinz -- Nicolay Sereba and Vincent Dery -- are both of African descent, and imbue Afrobeat into its far-reaching and airy pop, along with some mild, laidback hip-hop and R&B.
Nico & Vinz will perform on Sunday, January 18, at the corner of East Avenue and Chestnut Street. 6 p.m. Free. Carter and Corey of 98PXY will emcee the event. nicoandvinz.com; 98pxy.com.
