The library will be closed all day Tuesday through Thursday, December 24-26 and will re-open on Friday, December 27. The library will be closed from 5 PM on Tuesday, December 31 through Wednesday, January 1 and will re-open on Thursday, January 2.

Holiday Concert with Women of Note

This classy, jazzy, spirited female vocal ensemble sings standards, sacred, jazz, and seasonal music; they will be returning this year to get you into the holiday mood. Registration required.

Sweet Bites: A Taste of Poetry over the Lunch Hour

Film Showing: If Beale Street Could Talk

A young black couple in Harlem is ripped apart by the scheme of a racist cop. The sweethearts must rely on the strength of their community while seeking justice. The movie, based on James Baldwin’s 1974 novel of the same title, is part of the four-part reading and discussion series “James Baldwin’s America”, funded by a grant from Humanities New York. Christmas in Niagara on the Lake

Do you need new ideas to decorate for the holidays? Join Christy Simons as she shares her holiday photographs from Niagara on the Lake from Christmas of 2018. See the Prince of Wales, the Queen’s Landing, and the Pillar and Post Hotels in their holiday splendor. Get new holiday ideas from the front doors of homes in the historical area of this quaint town. Book Discussion Group

This month we get together to revisit our favorite books of the year, recommend choice reads to each other, and enjoy some holiday treats. Please bring your favorite book (or books) to present/share with the group. There is no specific book selected for discussion. No registration required; meeting located in the Story Hour Room.
No-Sew Quilted Holiday Ornament
Saturday, December 14, 10:30 AM-12:30 PM
Linda Bowers will help you construct a lovely holiday ornament for your tree. Squares of material are folded and pinned to a Styrofoam ball, creating the effect of a sewn quilt. Limited to 15 participants; registration required.
Great Decisions 2020
7:00-8:30 PM, Mondays, January 27-March 23 & Thursdays, January 30-March 26
This discussion program in conjunction with the Foreign Policy Association focuses on U.S. foreign policy. This year’s topics include: climate change, India and Pakistan, U.S. relations with the Northern Triangle, and China’s involvement with Latin America. Participants will be notified when the briefing books ($26.00) will be available at the circulation desk for pick-up and purchase. No sessions on February 17 or 20; snow dates will be March 30 and April 2. Registration is limited with priority given to past participants. Open registration begins on Monday, December 9 and closes on Monday, January 6.

Reading Power Play: Reading Program Sponsored by the Amerks
November 11, 2019-January 31, 2020
For Grades K-12. For every three books you read, you are entitled to enter the county-wide Amerks contest. Two grand prize-winners (one for grades K-5, one for grades 6-12) will receive box tickets to a February, 2020 Amerks game, a catered dinner in the President’s Lounge at the Blue Cross Arena that evening, and the chance to participate in the ceremonial dropping of the puck. The more you read, the more chances you have to win. Look for entry boxes near the teen area or children’s room.
Teen Tuesdays
Every Tuesday when school is in session, December 3, 10, & 17, 2:30-4:00 PM
For Grades 9-12. Meet up with friends after school to hang out and participate in activities! No registration required.
-- December 3: “Giving Tuesday” – we’ll create and decorate cards for senior centers, finish up some cat beds for Lollypop Farm, and paint kindness rocks.
-- December 10: “Game Day” – video and board games! December 17: “DIY Gift-Making” – make a few gifts for family and friends.
Interactive Movie: Elf

For Ages 4+. As part of the Amerk’s Reading Program, come meet one of the Rochester Amerks and their moose mascot. The player will read a hockey story, there will be a demonstration of hockey uniforms and equipment, a question-and-answer session, and an opportunity to get autographs. There will also be a trivia game where kids can win Amerks memorabilia. Each family that attends the appearance will be entitled to ONE free voucher to an Amerks game. Registration opens Thursday, November 21.
Gingerbread House: Parent & Child Workshop
Saturday, December 7, 10:30 AM-12:15 PM or 2:00-3:45 PM
For Grades 1-5, with an Adult. Design and decorate your very own gingerbread house. Participants need to please bring a can of creamy white frosting and a box of graham crackers (Keebler brand original work best). We will provide instruction, all the candy trim, and a sturdy box to transport your creation safely home. Registration opens Friday, November 22 for residents and November 29 for all others.
Crafty Fun Monday
Mondays, November 25 & December 16, 4:30-5:30 PM
For Grades K-4. Children in kindergarten through 4 th grade will meet for stories and a theme-related craft. Registration is open; please register separately for each individual date.
Parent-Child Book Group
Thursday, December 19, 6:45-7:30 PM
For Grades 3-5, with a parent. For our next book club evening, read a Hardy Boys or Nancy Drew book of your choice to share with the group. We will enjoy some special treats and get into a festive spirit! Our next formal book group will meet Thursday, January 30. The book selection will be revealed at the December meeting. No registration required.
Drop-In Saturday Family Story Times

For toddlers & preschoolers, with an adult. Weekly stories, songs, and finger plays. No registration required. (No story times November 9, 16, or 30)
Library LEGO Lab

For Ages 6-11. Do you love to build with LEGOs? Come join other LEGO fans for our Library LEGO Lab. We will provide the LEGOs, you bring your imagination. Registration opens Monday, December 9 for residents and December 16 for all others.
Doll’s Winter Tea Party

For Grades K-5. You and your favorite doll are invited to our “fancy” winter tea party. We will enjoy sweet refreshments, make a craft, and talk about our dolls. Please dress up (and your doll, too) in your favorite “party clothes” so you will be ready to stroll down our red carpet! Registration opens Monday, December 16 for residents and December 23 for all others.
New Year’s Eve Family Game Day
Tuesday, December 31, 2:00-3:00 PM
For Ages 4+, with an Adult (children under age 4 will be unable to attend the program). Let us ring in 2020 with a rousing family game. Prizes & refreshments. Don’t miss this special afternoon of family fun. Registration opens Tuesday, December 17 for residents and Monday, December 23 for all others.
