Passion, Past and Present

When: Thu., Sept. 1, 8-9:30 p.m. 2016

The timeless Passion story of life, death, and transformation has inspired artists for thousands of years. In an innovative program perfectly suited to the church stage, we pair the music of J. S. Bach with modern master (and Hilary Hahn favorite) David Lang, a 2016 Academy Award nominee for best film score. The Brooklyn-based chamber orchestra the Knights join vocal ensemble Ekmeles for a program of Bach’s exuberant Brandenburg Concerto No. 3, his Cantata, BWV 40 (with organ), and Lang’s Pulitzer Prize-winning Little Match Girl Passion, an unforgettable work of fragile beauty based on the tale by Hans Christian Andersen.
