Matthew Cochran is a singer-songwriter and virtuoso guitarist who mixes the plaintive folksong of his native Appalachia with classical conservatory training. A ten-year veteran of the concert stage, Cochran abandoned strictly-classical performances in 2010 in search of a hybrid between American roots music and classical composition. The result of that search is Vapor Trail from a Paper Plane, Cochran’s debut collection of songs that feature deeply personal lyrics that are sometimes funny and sometimes tragic, with lush string arrangements offset by banjos and soaring winds that recall the vastness of the American experience.
