Lowengard and Cimusz will start on February 1, 2019. Lowengard was hired to temporarily take over for Vargas in January 2016, but he suffered from a stroke shortly afterward and Cimusz took over. The two worked together in the Syracuse school district prior to coming to Rochester.

Cimusz served as interim until Barbara Deane-Williams was hired. Deane-Williams is leaving at the end of January six months prior to the end of her contract.

In the meantime, the Rochester school board has agreed to hire a search firm to find a permanent superintendent.
