In mid-nineteenth century Rochester, economic growth spurred professional men to seek self-cultivation through literary fraternities and clubs. Lewis Henry Morgan, the father of cultural anthropology, was a prominent member of the “pundit club” (as it was humorously known) along with other Rochesterians. You will meet him and many of the other club members in the tour and learn about their interesting intellectual legacy. The tour will be led by six veteran Mount Hope Cemetery tour guides. In addition, Dr. Robert Foster, Professor of Anthropology at the University of Rochester, will be on hand to highlight student research.
