Buzz has something of an odd pet: a fly. The "Fly Guy" series by children's book author and illustrator Tedd Arnold (who happens to live in Elmira) has become a modern kids' classic for its silliness and heart, and it's now up to 17 stories in the set. TYKEs (Theatre Young Kids Enjoy), this weekend and next, will stage "Fly Guy: The Musical," which combines stories from some of Arnold's early "Fly Guy" books, "Hi! Fly Guy," "Fly Guy Meets Fly Girl," and "Fly Guy vs. the Flyswatter." The show will find Buzz and his buddy, along with Roz the Lunch Lady and Liz and her pet, Fly Girl, having to face a school field trip to — what could be worse? — a flyswatter factory.
"Fly Guy: The Musical" will be onstage Saturday, January 13, and Sunday, January 14, and again January 20 and January 21, at the JCC's Hart Theater, 1200 Edgewood Avenue. 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on both Saturdays; 2 p.m. on both Sundays; and an additional 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 21. $16 general; $15 JCC members. Appropriate for ages 4 and up. 461-2000; tykestheatre.org.
