Keeping Your Head

When: Sat., June 2, 8-10 p.m. 2018

Musica Spei explores choral works from the English Renaissance dating from medieval chant to the Elizabethan age. Composers in this time period wrote music in the preferred style of the monarchs to whom they were employed. As monarchs alternated between Roman Catholic and Anglican, composers skillfully adapted the music to remain in the ruling monarch’s favor. This performance will include music from the early English Renaissance from composers such as Dunstable and Fayrfax. The second half of the performance will feature composers Tye, Taverner, Tallis, and Byrd: music closely associated with reign of Queen Elizabeth I.
