Gates Public Library March Programs

Thursday, March 7. Library opens at 11:00AM on the first Thursday of every month for staff training.

Friends of the Library Spring Book Sale: Thursday, March 7, 4:00 – 8:00PM (members’ preview - $5 to join), Friday, March 8, 9:30AM – 4:30PM, and Saturday, March 9, 10:00AM – 4:30PM. The Friends of Gates Public Library will have a large selection of books, puzzles, games, coffee table books and DVDs for sale in our atrium.

Sit, Knit & Stitch: Thursday, March 7, 6:30 – 8:30 PM. Bring your own project and enjoy the company of others who enjoy needlecraft like knitting, stitching and crocheting. Beginners to experts are welcome. Bring a snack and beverage if you wish. No registration.

ACT Test Prep: Saturday, March 9, 10:00. For students 9 th grade and higher. Take an officially released, full-length practice exam, learn how to score the exam, and interpret those results. Spruce Up Your Wardrobe with Blue Earrings: Saturday, March 9, 2:00 – 3:30 PM. Beat the cold- weather doldrums and make your winter wardrobe pop with some color. Deb Coller will be in to help you make bright blue earrings to compliment your wintertime style. All materials will be provided. For ages 18 and up. Registration is required.

Baby Story Time: Monday, March 11, 9:30 – 10:00 AM. For children ages birth through 2 years old, with a caregiver. Stories, songs, fingerplays and play time. No registration.

Story Time with Mary Jo: Monday, March 11, 10:15 – 11:00 AM. For ages 2 through 5 with a caregiver. Stories, songs, circle games, snack, fingerplays and toys are all part of this program. No registration.

Story Time with Hannah: Tuesday, March 12, 10:15 – 11:00 AM. For ages 2 through 5 with a caregiver. Stories, songs, circle games, snack, fingerplays and toys in this program. No registration.

Junior Friends: Tuesday, March 12, 4:00 – 5:00PM. The Junior Friends are library volunteers ages 9 - 16 who meet year-round and help the library with book sales, programs, and decorations, among other fun things. We also get involved with community service activities.

Time For Tots: Wednesday, March 13, 10:15 AM. Ages 1 through 5 with a caregiver. Forty minutes of free play with toys, followed by a short story time. No registration.

Lego Club: Thursday March 14, 6:30 – 7:30PM. Ages 5 through 12. Come build with our Legos! Registration is required.

Celtic Concert with Harmonious Harps: Saturday, March 16, 2:00 – 3:00 PM. Come be enchanted with the unique and fabulous sight and sound of the Harmonious Harps. Hear the essence of Irish/Celtic music in the hauntingly beautiful lyrical melodies, and tap your toes to the rhythmic beats of the lively dance music. Registration required.

GPL Out on the Town: Wednesday, March 20, 6:00 – 7:00 PM. Join us at the Metropolitan, one of Rochester’s tallest skyscrapers for an introductory Barre class with Lianna Miller of Roc & Soul Fitness. Library Board Meeting: Wednesday, March 20, 6:00 – 7:00 PM. Library Board meetings are open to the public.

Pajama Story Time: Thursday, March 21, 6:30 – 7:15 PM. Stories, songs, activities and a craft will be included. A family program for all ages and pajama wear is optional! No registration.

Fairy Tale Friday: Friday March 22, 10:15 – 11:00 AM. For ages 2 through 6 with a caregiver. Join us to hear versions of a favorite fairy tale, sing songs, make a craft, and have a snack. No registration.

Saturday Baby Story Time: Saturday, March 23, 9:30 – 10:00 AM. For children ages birth through 2 years old, with a caregiver. Stories, songs, fingerplays and play time. No registration.

Writing to Heal: Visual Journaling: Saturday, March 23, 1:00 – 3:00 PM. Are you dealing with life- changing issues? You are welcome in this class whether you already write or not. You’ll learn writing exercises and skills you can use for the rest of your life to know yourself better and help restore physical and emotional health. When you combine written and visual journaling, you get a powerful resource for self-discovery, insight and integration. Your conscious mind is verbal; your body carries information you need and delivers it through sensation and imagery. You can access this inner wisdom through drawing and writing exercises that interact with your picture. Some art supplies will be provided; you’re advised to bring your own markers, colored pencils, pastels, crayons, etc. No talent or art experience is necessary; this is a natural and fun process. DIY Brush Calligraphy Signs: Monday, March 25, 7:00 – 8:30PM. During this class, attendees will learn the basics of faux calligraphy using brush markers, and then use those techniques to create handmade signs. Students will receive supplies to make two keepsake signs. No prior experience with calligraphy is necessary to sign up for this class. Registratio0n is required. Music Makers!: Wednesday, March 27, 10:15 - 10:45 AM. For ages birth to 5 years old and their caregivers, Music Makers! will inspire singing, dancing, listening and instrument playing in a variety of learning styles. The children will be encouraged to interact socially as well. Registration required.

#ReadWomen Book Club: Thursday, March 28, 6:30 – 7:30 PM. This book club exclusively reads female authors. This month we are reading Pilgrim at Tinker Creek by Annie Dillard. Registration is requested.

Story Time Yoga: Friday, March 29, 10:00 – 10:30 AM. For ages 1 – 5 with a caregiver. Hear stories while stretching and strengthening your body! The stories will inspire children’s minds as their bodies are busy supporting them. No registration.

Lifetime Assistance, Inc. Open Interviews: Saturday, March 30, 10:30 AM – 3:30 PM. Lifetime Assistance, Inc. is looking for people with your talent to assist individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities that we support.
