Nashville has long been "Music City," and for good reason. But, when radio announcer David Cobb coined the affectionate sobriquet, I don't think he had any idea that a band like Diarrhea Planet would one day make its home there. In spite of (or maybe because of) its name, this six-piece has been getting a lot of critical attention lately. The group employs four guitarists, one thundering bass, and a drum set that gets the you-know-what beat out of it. The band's sophomore studio release "I'm Rich Beyond Your Wildest Dreams" (recently put out by Infinity Cat Records) is a beautiful exercise in excessive sludge, a bit of pop, and incessant shredding. The album is amazing, but you need to hear it live. LVL UP, Lamby, and Pleistocene also perform.
Diarrhea Planet performs Saturday, August 31, 9 p.m. at Bug Jar, 219 Monroe Ave. $6-$10. bugjar.com.
