Say, I’ll be honest: They had me with the fedora. Even when old school detective imagery and language moves toward pastiche, I still love it. And of course if the hat didn’t get me, the title most definitely did. Australian comedian, storyteller, and mentalist Dick Darrow (Tim Motley) was a side-splitter, rip snorter, a rapid fire hipster that had the sold-out Geva crowd digging his jive all the way to Hong Kong. He punctuated his performance with card tricks, mind-reading, all the while narrating a one-man detective novel. He also let fly with a tempestuous torrid torrent of blue, blue, blue one-liners. Even the corny cracks were cool. The Australian native has won best of the Fringe accolades in practically every city he’s played around the world.
