Robert Jones and Matt Watroba mix a whole pocket full of cultures and their subsequent musicality over a plaintive folk background. There's room for crowd participation — it's highly encouraged, apparently, as the band goes through and educational tour of American music, from field hollers and Leadbelly to Motown. Check out the duo's keen hip-hop makeover of Son House's "Death Letter," which doesn't sound nearly as sacrilegious as you'd think.
Golden Link Folk Singing Society presents Robert Jones and Matt Watroba on Saturday, January 20, at Rochester Christian Reformed Church, 2750 Atlantic Avenue. 7:30 p.m. $10-$20. goldenlink.org; revrobertjones.com.
