English as a New Language

Free English as a New Language tutoring. Build your skills in speaking, vocabulary, reading, and writing in friendly, one-on-one or small group sessions. Materials are provided. Children can attend a story hour at the library at the same time. Presented by Learning Links of Fairport.
Limited to 15 participants. Registration is recommended but not required.

Citizenship Classes
Tuesdays, March 5-April 30, 11:00 AM-12:00 PM
Free class to prepare adults for the United States Citizenship Test. Instruction is given in U.S. history, reading, writing, and vocabulary needed to pass the test. Materials are provided. Presented by Learning Links for Fairport. Limited to 15 participants. Registration is recommended but not required.

Making the Right Decision: Maximizing Your Social Security Benefit

Ideal for anyone that has not claimed their Social Security benefit and is starting to think about it. We will overview the basics of Social Security and discuss a variety of strategies you can use to maximize your benefit. Specific scenarios include:
· Married – scenarios for those still working or retired.
· Divorced spousal benefits.
· Divorced retirees.
· Widows and widowers.
· Working while collecting.
· Taxation.
Your benefit choice is permanent. We will review known and many unknown strategies can be taken to make the right decision and get the most income from this benefit. All attendees receive a Social Security Resource Guide. Presented by Jeffrey Douglass, Financial Advisor. Registration required.

The Art of Burning Man

A tour of large scale, interactive art that rises out of the desert in Nevada for one week each year, and then disappears without a trace. See photos of Burning Man art and learn what this event is all about. The 2018 theme was I, Robot. We’ll see photos inspired by this theme, and also get a sneak peek at what’s coming up for 2019. AARP Safety Driving

A two part classroom driver refresher course designed for drivers aged 50 and over. Cost is $20 for AARP members and $25 for non members, payable at the first class (only checks accepted). Must have a valid New York state license. Drivers need to attend both classes to get certificate. Registration required.

Low Maintenance Gardening

Cindy Cali, who has run her own landscape/gardening business for the last 16 years, will talk about professional methods for lowering the maintenance of your current gardens so that you will have time to relax and enjoy them! Some of the topics covered include your landscape plan, the lawn, trees and shrubs, plant choice, and planting low-maintenance containers. She will also bring her tried-and-true tools to show you.
