If there is one word that can sum up Man Man's musical style, it would have to be "experimental." The Philadelphia-based group's horn and bass drum dominated sound is accompanied by lead singer Honus Honus' crooning voice, combining to make odd, yet magical music. The lyrics don't stray far from the experimental theme — like on the track "Big Trouble," Honus Honus sings, "Woe is me, I'm a zombie, forever falling like peanut brittle all over your tits" — but it's another element that makes the band a unique treasure. Live shows are where the group really shines, as the members put everything they have into their performances.
Man Man plays with Gogol Bordello on Saturday, July 26, at the Main Street Armory, 900 East Main Street. 8 p.m. $30-35. Mainstreetarmory.com.
