The Khmer Rouge took over and started murdering artists and free thinkers as well as anyone who adapted Western culture, killing a quarter of the Cambodian population. he sounds and spirit of the Cambodian rock endured, and still does today, as an important piece of its strong, if scarred, cultural identity.
