It boggles my mind that jungle — and drum and bass for slightly more civilized folks — is twenty years old. The uniquely British hybrid of hardcore techno's speed and aggression, steely break beats and Jamaican sound system traditions has always sounded to me like a glimpse into an exotic sci-fi future. Two crews, Sidewalk Events and Riled Up Productions will present an overview of the genre's past, present and future, highlighting local purveyors of the sound. Jungle warriors DJ Kahncept and Union will play an epic tag-team set and Jungle Bums Bones Jones and Operation: Douchebag will keep it rolling. Vicetron, Glittercvlt, Sidewalk Jackson, and Riley Beats also support.
Riddims and Rollers takes places Saturday, November 9, 10 p.m., at Montage Music Hall, 50 Chestnut St., $5-$10, themontagemusichall.com.
