MUSIC: Tiffany Dawn is on a quest, and she's taking that quest on a coffeehouse tour across the country. The book-signing/wine-tasting/live musical event centers around Dawn's own quest as told in her book about her past through eating disorders and that search for that perfect body image before finding herself, God, and comfort within her own skin. Musical acts include Shannon Gunn & Sean Pritzkau, Krysta & David Stacy, Tiffany Dawn, Robert Tyler and Stacie Collins, and Call4Backup. This is a free event, starting at 7 p.m. at Lovin Cup (300 Park Point Dr., lovincup.com).
KIDS: Take the kids to the National Museum of Play (1 Manhattan Square) today for the "Balloons Around the World" event, featuring local balloon artists Larry Moss and Kelly Cheatle of Airigami, who will create a large rain forest scene with trees and animals made entirely out of balloons. The event takes place 11 a.m.-4 p.m., and is included in the $11-$13 admission price. For more information, call 263-2700, or visit museumofplay.org.
MUSIC: Coming to Rochester via Detroit, the Deadstring Brothers exist at that crossroads where blues and country and rock and roll all walk together and hold hands, throwing back to the Rolling Stones and other greats. There'll be nothing dead about the strings this band jams on during the show, so head on down to Abilene (153 Liberty Pole Way, abilenebarandlounge.com) tonight at 8 p.m., tickets run $5-$7.
SPECIAL EVENT: The Eastman School of Music (26 Gibbs St.) is marking the 130th Anniversary of composer Karol Szymanowski's birth with free musical recitals and related readings today at 8 p.m. The free event takes place in Hatch Recital Hall. For more information, call 274-1000 or visit esm.rochester.edu.
