CLASSICAL | Rochester Oratorio Society

Calling it a "global collaboration," the Rochester Oratorio Society will host a concert including the Sankofa African Drum and Dance Ensemble and the Hochstein Percussion Ensemble. Two masses are on the program — one from Argentinian composer Ariel Ramirez, the other from a Belgian Franciscan friar, Father Guido Haazen. The "Misa Criolla" combines Spanish text and indigenous instruments and rhythms. The "Missa Luba" was billed by Phillips records when it was released as "pure Congolese," "void of any modern, Western musical influences." The program is sure to be one of those rare opportunities to travel without a passport, courtesy of unique programming that takes advantage of the wealth of musical talent in Rochester.

The performance will be held on Friday, March 14, 7:30 p.m. at Hochstein Performance Hall, 50 N. Plymouth Ave. $10-$25. 473-2234, ROSsings.org.
