Canandaigua's LakeMusic Chamber Music Festival, around since 2005, gets more ambitious and more interesting each year. This summer's featured performer is the Lithuanian pianist Ieva Jokubaviciute, who has performed at Carnegie Hall's Stern Auditorium, London's Wigmore Hall, and the Kennedy Center as well as in many festivals and with many orchestras. The LakeMusic Festival is centered on four chamber concerts over two weekends at Finger Lakes Community College (Campus Concert Hall, 3325 Marvin Sands Drive, Canandaigua):
July 14, 7:15 p.m.: "Ieva, Death and the Maiden": Jokubaviciute performs Schumann's "Fantasy in C," and will be joined by the Avalon String Quartet in its festival debut.
July 16, 1:45 p.m.: "Memories & Souvenirs": Jokubaviciute and festival artistic directors Kevin Kumar and Amy Sue Barston will perform Beethoven's Piano Trio in E Flat; Kumar and Barston partner with the Avalon String Quartet for Tchaikovsky's "Souvenir de Florence."
July 21, 7:15 p.m.: The trio Chalaca will perform works by composers who have immigrated from Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Cuba, Puerto Rico, and Venezuela.
July 23, 1:45 p.m.: "Mozart in the Jungle": Clarinetist Benito Meza and percussionist Samuel Torres will play Latin-inspired works; violist Melissa Matson and violinist Patricia Sunwoo join Barston, Kumar, and Benito for Mozart's Clarinet Quintet.
The LakeMusic lineup also includes a free children's concert at Canandaigua's Wood Library on July 20, and an informal "Classical Blue Jeans" and barbecue concert at Bristol Harbour Resort in South Bristol on Wednesday, July 19. "Master key" tickets: $100 general admission; single concert tickets, $10 students, and $28 general admission. Information and tickets at all Wegmans stores or at lakemusicfestival.org.
