Charles Lowe: The Rochester & Eastern Line

When: Sun., March 31, 1 p.m. 2019

The interurban era of electric trolley travel was a unique period in our nation's transportation history. Lines were built throughout the country providing a high-speed alternative to steam trains and the horse and buggy. Interurban trolley cars were luxuriously appointed and offered downtown connections to the network of streetcars there for convenient public mobility.

The Rochester and Eastern operated from 1903 to 1930 and is a classic example from the interurban era. Mr. Lowe's presentation will share images of the line, followed by a detailed look at the line's only remaining car, interurban 157, which is on display at the museum.
