To honor the war dead and fill an information gap in US mass media, City Newspaper will run weekly lists of American soldiers killed during the occupation of Iraq.

The totals:

855 American soldiers and 118 Coalition soldiers have been killed in Iraq from the beginning of the war and occupation to June 28. More than 5,138 American soldiers have been wounded in action, while an estimated 11,000 have become ill or been injured in "non-combat" incidents. At least 100 contractors have been killed or are currently missing. And an estimated 50,000 Iraqi civilians have been killed or injured since the war began.
