Clara, On Her Own Terms: In our present societal moment, many musicians and scholars are highlighting composers whose work has been historically overlooked in part due to systemic racism and misogyny. Among these composers is Clara Schumann. In this lecture-recital, Dr. Benjamin Hopkins will perform Schumann’s Sonata in G minor and Variations on a Theme by Robert Schumann, and discuss and evaluate them in the context of the 19th century composer-performer.
