Baroque Trumpet Splendor ft. Brian Shaw

When: Thu., Feb. 20, 7:30 p.m. 2014

Baroque trumpet virtuoso Brian Shaw joins the Publick Musick strings in this concert with the magnificent Italian Baroque Organ in the Fountain Court of the MAG, with a program centered on music from Bologna, whose magnificent San Petronio Basilica was a major European center of musical innovation in the late 1600s. This program will also explore the early history of the trumpet as a concert instrument, starting with some of the first works published for trumpet and organ in 1638, and ending with a tantalizing taste of the virtuosic heights to which composers of the mid-1700s took the trumpet concerto.
