Musica Spei presents Renaissance works inspired by lyrical texts from the Song of Solomon. These musical settings complement the sensuality and joy of the texts through the unique musical expressions and compositional techniques of the time. The audience will experience a variety of musical styles from the medieval sound of John Dunstable’s setting of “Quam pulchra es” (How fair art thou) to the Baroque music of Hieronymus Praetorius’ double choir setting of “Surge proper anima mea” (Arise, haste, my love). The concert includes works by prominent composers of the Renaissance: Palestrina, Josquin, Guerrero, Victoria, and Lassus.
