The Finger Lakes Regional Economic Development Council
might release its draft Upstate Revitalization Initiative
application on Wednesday.
Seven Upstate regions will compete for one of three $500 million economic development awards through the URI. Last month, the council’s consultants set August 12 as the public release date for the draft application. Once the draft is out, the council will take public comment on it.
The council has a meeting set for Wednesday, but it’s an executive session. It has a public meeting scheduled for 10 a.m. on Wednesday, August 19.
The council’s consultants sketched out the application’s approach during that July meeting. They said that the application will likely focus on optics, photonics, and imaging; agriculture and food production; and higher education and research. Those are three key, growing industries in the region, they said. BY JEREMY MOULE
