Roman announces County Lej bid

Democrat Yversha Roman is challenging sitting Republican Tony Micciche for a County Legislature seat that covers some of the city's west side neighborhoods and parts of Gates and Greece.

The 26th District seat had traditionally been Democratic until Micciche unseated Democratic Legislator Steve Eckel in 2011. There are 3,892 enrolled Democrats in the district, 1,561 Republicans, and 1,687 unaffiliated voters.

Roman is assistant director of school based programs for the Center for Youth. As a legislator, she'd call for more oversight of local development corporations, would seek more transparency in county finances, and would advocate for youth program funding, according to a press release sent out this afternoon.

“As a homeowner, I know the pride my neighbors throughout the district take in making our community a great place to live for themselves and their children," Roman said in the press release. "I want to give them the opportunity to have their concerns heard in county government.”
