The competition for Bill Reilich's old Assembly seat is heating up. 

Yesterday, the county Republican Party announced Peter Lawrence's candidacy for the 134th district. Lawrence spent 29 years working for the New York State Police before retiring in 2002, when he was appointed as US Marshal for the Western District of New York, says a press release from the GOP.  He served as marshal through 2010.

The Democratic candidate is Gary Pudup, who spent 29 years working in the Monroe County Sheriff's Ofice. He's also former director of the local New York Civil Liberties Union chapter. 

The district, which covers Greece, Ogden, and Parma, has no incumbent. Republican Bill Reilich held it 10 years, but resigned after he was elected Greece Supervisor last year.
