Governor Andrew Cuomo will lay out his agenda for the coming year in his State of the State address at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 8. He’ll give the address in Albany, but it will mostly likely be streamed through the governor’s web site.

Over the weekend, news reports speculated about the speech and, of course, what it could mean for Cuomo’s re-election bid this year, and his potential 2016 presidential run.

Cuomo is expected to use the speech to make a couple of big announcements. A few media reports have said he'll announce an executive action to allow the use of marijuana to treat certain medical conditions.

Media reports also say that the governor will lay out plans for tax cuts. A Buffalo News article says the focus may be on property and business tax relief. Jeremy Moule

The Rochester City School District will not hold its School Choice Expo this year — a traditional event where all of the district’s schools and programs are presented to parents and guardians for enrollment purposes.

Instead, for the 2014-2015 school year, each school in the district will hold its own recruitment night, and three are scheduled for this week. School 36 will hold its recruitment night on Tuesday, January 7, at 85 Saint Jacob Street, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

And on Thursday, January 9, Early College International High School, 200 Genesee Street, will hold its recruitment night from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., while School 16, 625 Scio Street, will hold its event from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tim Louis Macaluso
