Lucinda Williams, Drive-by Truckers, Trampled by Turtles, and Lucero are among the headliners of this year's Party in the Park weekly concert series at Martin Luther King Jr. Park at Manhattan Square beginning June 19.
The Wailers, Yonder Mountain String Band, Railroad Earth, Dirty Dozen Brass Band, The Baseball Project, Dickey Betts and Great Southern, Dumpstaphunk, Dark Star Orchestra, and Presidents of the USA are also scheduled to perform. The lineup was announced at a press conference Wednesday.
The Wailers open the series on June 19. A concert will take place each Thursday through August 14.
Local performers will open each concert and are slated to play during breaks on a second, small stage in the bowl. Among the performers: Trinidad and Tobago Steel Band, the Mambo Kings, and Melia. More local bands will be announced.
This year marks the return of Party in the Park to its original location in Manhattan Square, where it began 18 years ago. In recent years, the series took place in a parking lot on Exchange Boulevard.
"Moving this family programming to Martin Luther King Jr. Park adds additional energy and vibrancy to this corner of downtown," says G. Rollie Adams, president and CEO of The Strong. The Strong is one of the event's sponsors.
All concerts start at 5 p.m. The park is at the corner of Chestnut and Court streets.
Tickets go on sale in mid-May. General admission tickets are $5, and free for children age 12 and under. A "Party Pack" for tickets to all concerts with access to an express entry line is available for $35.
Tickets can be purchased at the gate, through Ticketmaster, or at the Blue Cross Arena box office, 100 Exchange Boulevard.
