There is little better than watching vocalists go head-to-head, and you have two opportunities to choose from this weekend. First, the Rochester Oratorio Society (ROS) will present the ninth consecutive iteration of its highly popular Classical Idol. Contestants will compete for a cash prize as well as performance opportunities with ROS and the Rochester Lyric Opera. Semifinals will be held on Friday, April 17, at Asbury United Methodist Church (1050 East Avenue, free) where the judges will select finalists to compete at the final competition performance gala on Saturday evening.

Classical Idol's final competition is Saturday, April 18, at the Temple B'rith Kodesh, 2131 Elmwood Avenue. 7 p.m. $75, which includes refreshments. rossings.org.

The same evening, the Eastman School of Music will host the finals of the 2015 Lotte Lenya competition in Kilbourn Hall. Each finalist will perform a longer program for judges between 11 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, and the competition will culminate in a concert of selections from each finalist and the announcement of the winners.
