Democrats in the 29th Legislative District have selected Leslie Rivera to fill a vacant County Legislature seat.

The seat was previously held by Democrat Michael Patterson, who resigned last month to take over the City Council seat held by Mayor Lovely Warren.

Officially, County Legislature President Jeff Adair must appoint Patterson’s replacement. Under county law, Adair must appoint a Democrat, since that’s the party Patterson belongs to.

Monroe County Democratic Committee Chair Joe Morelle will send Adair a letter recommending Rivera this week, says a press release from Rivera’s camp.

Rivera was born in Puerto Rico, but when she was a child her family moved to the Keeler Park Apartments near Hudson Avenue and the Keeler Street Expressway, according to the press release. They moved to the area to help operate the family business, Rivera Market, says the release.

Rivera is a city school district graduate and a teacher at the district’s School 9.
